Some people think that updating Notepad isn't mandatory if Microsoft decides to go for a third-party app such as Notepad++, which provides a lot more features and helps users perform many more things than with the Windows-included version.
While it's indeed true that Microsoft hasn't updated Notepad too often and the application provides pretty much the same features as it did in Windows XP, there's absolutely no indication that Redmond has any plans to implement new capabilities in the next version of the Windows operating system. Including a new Notepad version, that is.Ī popular user request on the Windows UserVoice thread asks Microsoft to bring a “better Notepad application” in Windows 10, pointing out that “Notepad.exe is ancient and doesn't work well for many things.” Windows 10 indeed comes with plenty of improvements in terms of features and user interface, but many of those currently running an older version of the operating system expect even more from the next release.
